Everyone has a layer in their body where their tension hangs out.

On some people, it is close to the surface and on others, it is quite deep. To receive relief, the therapist must work at that level. A good therapist always feels where the level is. Unfortunately, most therapists are not good. If you had an ineffective massage, it is because your therapist did not work at your tension level, so you have learned to ask for deep tissue.

Everyone deserves a massage deep (or light) enough for their particular body. So, if your tension is deep, you will automatically receive a deep tissue massage.
